Cycling in the Southampton area

Home

Welcome to Southampton Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC)

We are a friendly, cycling club for anyone living in and around the Southampton area looking to explore Hampshire and further afield on their bike, meet new friends and discover the best coffee/tea/cake shops. With rides of various lengths from 10 miles to 100 miles for a range of abilities and club events starting from various places across Southampton plus Romsey, Eastleigh and North Baddesley as well as organised club trips in the UK and abroad there is something for everyone who loves cycling.

We’d love you to join us for a ride.

We are part of Cycling UK, formerly known as the CTC, the national cycling charity who hope to inspire people to cycle and help them keep cycling. They encourage all types of cycling, on the road or off it and support you if you already ride, or would like to ride, to work or school, for health, touring, sport and leisure – or just because it’s fun.

Joining a ride

When you first come out on a ride with Southampton CTC you do not need to be a member.  You are welcome to ride with us without membership  for up to 3 rides to see whether we are the club for you.

Participants aged 13 to 17 must have a signed parental consent form. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult acting in loco parentis and have a signed parental consent form.

Becoming a member

If you do decide to join, you join Cycling UK which is a national membership which allows you to ride with any Cycling UK group anywhere in the country. Membership also provides you with:

  • £10 million 3rd party insurance cover plus free technical and legal advice
  • A bi-monthly magazine
  • Lots of relevant discount

What you need

Bike: All you need is a roadworthy bike. Any roadworthy bike is fine for our easy rides. For our harder rides a reasonably lightweight road or touring bike is more suitable. But don’t be put off trying one of our rides because you think you don’t have the right bike. We can advise on how you can adapt your existing bike and provide expert advice if you want to buy a new one.

Clothing: Specialist clothing and a helmet are optional. A light, waterproof jacket is almost essential for the British climate. Otherwise just bring something to drink, spare inner tubes and tyre levers and lights for winter and evening rides. Rides stop for refreshments at regular intervals but you may like to pack a cereal bar or similar as emergency rations.
